IRL Document management
On a related note, why the hell do some people insist on using IRL,
that is, paper, for important documents, then justify this by saying,
oh well, we don’t want this on our servers, because it’s insecure
(e.g. the building could burn down). Well, the paper is fire-proof
then, yeah? And none of the important data is on the servers right
(just all of it)? And we don’t have an off-site backup (I *think* we
do)?
Also, keeping document versions using MS Word (or any other
non-plaintext based format) is a nightmare just by looking at it. I
mean, “oh, I didn’t copy this from the one (unreferenced) file into
the other”? And the only protection against changing “documents” is
that they’re write-protected. Are you kidding me. Don’t even get me
started on not using a spell checker at least once or misaligned
objects (because you’re using a fricking wysiwig graph editor).
And if you don’t have any taste for graphical stuff, please
use a decent template and no rainbow colors for your presentation.
